Crowns

If fillings won't do the job and you need a crown to replace decayed or damaged teeth, then we offer a choice of these at FADC Dental Group. These include gold crowns, which are the strongest, and porcelain fused to gold crowns, which are the strongest 'white' crowns available.

However, the newer ceramic crowns are more aesthetically pleasing and consist of a strong ceramic base with porcelain fused on top and give a more natural tooth colour.

Whichever type of crown you choose, they'll all ultimately restore the appearance of your teeth, as well as make them stronger and prevent further damage. Crowns require several visits to fit as the old filling or decay first has to be removed, and a foundation made for the crown. We'll then prepare the tooth and take an impression on the second visit, making a temporary crown while the impression is sent to our dental laboratory, where the crown will be handcrafted. This process can take between 12-15 working days, and the final appointment will involve cementing the finished crown onto the tooth.

Fillings

If you need fillings to restore damaged or decayed teeth, we offer a choice of amalgam, composite, glass ionomer and CEREC. Both amalgam and composite fillings are best suited for small to medium treatments, while glass ionomer is better for small and CEREC for more significant filling work.

Our amalgam restorations are the traditional silver fillings and are a relatively cheap option, although, over time, they blacken, giving teeth a grey appearance. They also don't strengthen the tooth, and patients may worry about the mercury leaking out and causing problems. However, amalgam is still considered a safe and approved material to use in dental procedures for adult patients.

On the other hand, composite restorations are made of a plastic mixture filled with glass and are tooth-coloured. They can now be used for both front and back teeth and are more aesthetically pleasing, as they blend in with your natural tooth colour. Composite fillings also bond to the tooth, supporting the remaining tooth structure and helping to prevent breakages. They further insulate the tooth from excessive temperature changes.

CEREC

CEREC stands for 'Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics' and is recommended for patients who require medium to large fillings. Also tooth-coloured, CEREC uses CAD Cam technology to scan the tooth preparation, so there are no messy impressions involved, with the restoration designed chairside and made while you wait.

Therefore it's quick and offers an aesthetically pleasing filling that is both strong and durable. At FADC Dental Group, we're proud to be a member of the growing worldwide CEREC family and are committed to providing our patients with the best possible technology.

We'll only recommend using CEREC after a thorough examination and only if deemed appropriate.

Porcelain Laminate Veneers

Veneers are a great way to restore the appearance of your smile, covering chipped, cracked, misaligned or discoloured front teeth. Our ceramist can create custom porcelain veneers that fit perfectly over the front surfaces of your teeth, bonding them carefully in place.

We'll simply prepare the natural tooth structure before creating upper and lower impressions of your teeth. We'll then match the shade to your existing teeth and place a temporary veneer on top as required until your veneers are made. After about two weeks, we can remove any temporary veneers, clean and etch the tooth and new veneer, and bond it to your tooth.

Teeth Whitening

We offer Zoom! Teeth whitening system at FADC Dental Group uses a light-activated whitening gel with an active ingredient of Hydrogen Peroxide. This is broken down, allowing oxygen to enter the enamel, dentin and bleach coloured substances, giving the tooth a whiter appearance.

The process involves preparing the teeth beforehand, then applying the bleach and touching this up at home later on using gel trays. We'll scale and clean your teeth to remove stains before taking impressions of the upper and lower jaws so we can create a custom-made medicament tray for you to use at home.

The bleaching process takes one-and-a-half hours and involves applying the gel activating it with the Zoom! light, removing the gel and repeating another two times. You'll then use your bleaching trays to apply extra bleaching gels to top up the process at home. In most cases, patients have noticed a three to four shade improvement immediately after the bleaching process. After the home treatment, a further one to two shade lightning can be expected.

In most cases, patients can experience some form of sensitivity during and after bleaching, but this shouldn't last beyond 24-48 hours. To avoid premature staining, patients are advised not to smoke and drink red wine during the bleaching process and up to two weeks afterwards.
