Children's Dentistry

Patient children’s dentistry services in Bunbury, Eaton, Australind & surrounding areas

At FADC Dental Group, we work with both children and adults at our family practices and believe that introducing your child to the dentist early on is ideal. Getting them used to the dentist’s chair from a young age will remove any fear they might have and will also enable effective monitoring of their oral health and development.

We can monitor jawbone and facial structure development to check for alignment issues, as well as watch for any signs that may suggest problems with teeth coming through. This can alert us to the possible need for future orthodontic treatment, as well as allow us to detect any early signs of poor oral hygiene and decay.

Part of our children’s dentistry services also involves creating custom-made mouthguards for young sporting enthusiasts. A well-fitting mouthguard allows you to breathe and speak more clearly and is ideal for adults and children alike who play sports where there’s a significant risk of injury.

Our mouthguards will protect your teeth and gums, as well as the surrounding soft tissues, cushioning impact and helping to prevent serious injury and concussion.

Fissure Seals

Used to fill in the grooves on back teeth which often trap food and can be breeding grounds for bacteria, fissure seals set after just a few minutes. The result is a smooth tooth which is much easier to clean and which will help to prevent decay thanks to this protective barrier on top.

The sealant also contains fluoride for added protection and application is completely painless and will last for five or more years. The ideal time to have sealants applied is immediately after the first permanent molars have emerged - around age six - and then after the permanent adult premolars emerge, between 11 and 14.

The Myobrace System is an innovative no-braces approach to straightening your teeth and jaws, which is based on over 20 years of experience in correcting orthodontic problems without the need for braces. The Myobrace appliances that make up this system have the proven dual function of correcting oral habits that cause poor dental development (known as myofunctional habits), while also providing light forces to align the teeth into their natural position. Diet and Flouride Treatment

Tooth decay is related to eating foods rich in sugar and cooked starches, with cavities often forming between the teeth before you can see them. Rinsing with or drinking water after these snacks is helpful, and it is always advised that you encourage your child to drink water frequently.

Fluoride is a safe mineral compound found naturally in water, the air we breathe and many different kinds of foods, and is important in developing and maintaining healthy teeth. However, it should be used with care, as excessive use can actually cause problems with the tooth enamel, so please contact our dentists before using fluoride supplements if you already use fluoride toothpaste or drinks.

Most snacks that children eat cause cavities, so children should only receive healthy snack foods like:

Low-fat yogurt

Cheeses which promote strong teeth
